Event description
Inner authority is the ability to genuinely value our own thoughts, feelings, perceptions and intuition.

About this Event

Inner authority is the ability to genuinely value our own thoughts, feelings, perceptions and intuition, leading to self-trust, agency and the ability to be the authors of our own lives. It is a quality that emerges during what Jung called individuation. In the Western world, authority has usually been understood in terms of the archetypal masculine principle of intellect, spirit and meaning. A more complete and balanced form of inner authority includes these qualities but must also draw upon the archetypal feminine principle, long associated with embodiment, relatedness and soulfulness. Here we discover what has been in the background of the psyche for a very long time: archetypal images that are clearly feminine and that clearly hold authority. Allowing these images to become more visible, complete and grounded can be a transformative experience for both women and men.

This day-long workshop will explore aspects of inner authority that are grounded in the archetypal feminine principle. We will draw upon insights from Jungian psychology and as well as images from myth, fairy tales, art and film to consider how these aspects may develop in women and men. The feminine and masculine principles are archetypal patterns, psychological potentials which exist in the psyches of both men and women. While this workshop is focused on feminine images of authority that have often been overlooked in our culture, it is intended for both women and men. Both men and women can be enriched by developing a more authentic, individual experience of inner value, trustworthiness and agency.
