Beyond Debt/Equity: How Can We Help the Solidarity Economy Grow?
Event Information
About this event
The most common ways to invest in businesses are making loans (debt) and purchasing shares (equity). As we seek to invest in the solidarity economy without extraction, what other financing tools should we know about?
For instance, a worker co-op may need a larger loan than a grassroots group can provide. Where should the co-op turn?
A nonprofit may need seed money for a new social enterprise but not wish to go into debt. What are their options?
Join Colorado Solidarity Fund member Jason Wiener of Jason Wiener | PC, as we learn about alternative investment vehicles such as convertible notes, revenue-based financing, and guarantees. These may sound be unfamiliar financial terms, but anyone can understand them.
This session is especially designed for club members within CoIN, Cooperative Investment Network (a group of autonomous co-op investment clubs in Detroit, Boston, Minneapolis, Vermont and Denver). Anyone interested in the intersection of patient capital and the solidarity economy are welcome to attend.
