Event description

Description

You don’t have to have walked on the moon to have a great story. Even mundane experiences can be compelling. Our workshops teach you how to tell a personal story in front of a live audience. We'll cover storytelling basics and not-so-basics, including how to hook an audience, building interest and suspense, techniques for adding color, humor, and pathos, and delivering a powerful ending.

We’ll also talk about what it’s like to perform in front of a live audience, and provide tools and advice for storytelling like a champ while having fun. After all, if you’re not having fun telling your story, you might as well be taking a public speaking class.

Never told a story before? Think that your experiences aren't interesting or funny enough? Never fear! Nearly 100 storytellers have graced our stage, including introverts and many who have never done it before. They tell us they come away from it with a stronger sense of confidence, feeling energized by the connection they build with the audience, the support they receive from fellow storytellers, and the personal coaching we provide.

This workshop is also a great introduction for anyone interested in performing at one of our upcoming story jams which are held every other month at Piano Fight in San Francisco.

The Beyond Borders Storytelling team has been organizing story jams in San Francisco for 4 years. We’ve hosted over 25 story jams for audiences of 20 to 400+ people. Presented in partnership with Hostelling International USA.
