On Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19, The Center for Health Care Services will host the 19th Annual Bexar County Behavioral Health & Wellness Conference featuring FREE workshops and resource information for youth and adults living with mental health conditions, substance use disorders and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and their loved ones.

Friday, October 18 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.):

  • Mental Health Knowledge: These workshop sessions offer attendees an opportunity to learn more about topics that are affecting them or a loved one struggling with mental health. Topics may include, but are not limited to: First Episode Psychosis; Mental Health and Faith; Supported Employment Options and Mental Health; Testimonials from People with Lived Experience; and a Veteran’s Panel: Resources, How to Apply, Conversations Among Vets.
  • Substance Use Knowledge: These workshop sessions are for people who are currently seeking services or interested in learning more about substance use challenges. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Opioid Prevention Intervention; Addiction and Mental Health: Breaking the Stigma, Recovery Out Loud; After Treatment (Community-Based Care); Co-Occurring Mental Health and Addiction; and Standing Up to Your Doctor: Opiate/Benzo Alternatives.
  • Community Resources Information: These workshop sessions are geared for people interested in learning more about mental health and substance use resources available in Bexar County including: Services for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD); Patient Bill of Rights and Psychiatric Advance Directives; Permanent, Affordable Housing: San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) Process, Transitional Housing for Options for People in Mental Health and/or Substance Use Recovery; and Legal Aid Resources: Help for Someone on Parole.
  • Essentials for Caregivers: These workshop sessions offer caregivers and family members an opportunity to learn how to be a supportive person in a loved one’s struggle with mental health and/or substance use challenges while also taking care of themselves. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Senior Adults and Mental Wellness; How to Deal with Aging Parents; Caregivers: Tired of Being Tired; Stress and Your Mental Health; How to Connect Work, Home, School and Juggling It All.
  • Wellness Topics: This track offers wellness topics for challenges with mental health and substance use disorders. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Navigating Social Media; Abusive Relationships: Are you in One?; Healing Through Writing; Brain Development and Mental Health; and Yoga and Pilates. These sessions will be offered both Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19, 2019.

Saturday, October 19 (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.):

  • Youth (Youth, ages 12-17) Track: This track is for youth, ages 12 to 17, who are interested in learning more about mental health issues for themselves, a friend, or a family member. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Young Adults Dealing with an Addict or Alcoholic Parent; College Students and Stress; Alternative Peer Groups: Transitioning from Youth Recovery to Adult Recovery; and Recovery High School: Young and Sober, Specifics of Working with Young Adults in Recovery.
  • Professional Development Topics: These workshop sessions are for mental health and counseling professionals seeking Continuing Education credit to maintain certification and meet licensure renewal requirements. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Making the Most of Supervision and Healthy Teaming with Co-workers.
