July 15th meeting information

This month we'll be reading The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative by Florence Williams. We are pleased to introduce the Human Impacts Institute's very own crew member, Delaney Accomando, as the moderator of the first book club meeting. A message from Delaney:

Hi all!

I’m excited to be facilitating the first book club meeting! I chose this book because I’m working towards a degree in landscape architecture and the healing power of nature has always fascinated me. With climate change growing into a larger problem than ever, there is an exigent obligation to create a difference in the way that individuals relate to the spaces in which they exist and form deeper connections with nature. From forest trails in Korea, to islands in Finland, to eucalyptus groves in California, Florence Williams investigates the science behind nature's positive effects on the brain. Delving into brand-new research, she uncovers the powers of the natural world to improve health, promote reflection and innovation, and strengthen our relationships. As our modern lives shift dramatically indoors, these ideas--and the answers they yield--are more urgent than ever. I'd love to discuss how this book reflects our own relationships with nature. We will talk about our personal experiences with nature and how that relates to motifs throughout the book such as creativity, self-expression, attitude, and mental and physical health.

Between the Lines will meet on Thursday, July 15th at 6pm to discuss our first book. The book is approximately $15 new. Find it at your local bookstore or online at https://bookshop.org/. Or support your local library and borrow it!
