Event description

Description

Between Artist and Model: the mystery and mechanics of the life room
Thursday 3 May
6.30-7.30pm. Dooors open 6.15pm

“When the intensity of looking reaches a certain degree, one becomes aware of an equally intense energy coming towards one, through the appearance of whatever it is one is scrutinizing”

John Berger on life drawing

Why is life drawing so compelling compared to drawing inanimate objects?

What is the nature of the dialogue between artist and life model? And what does it feel like from the other side? Is being drawn a passive activity?

With reference to their personal experiences of life-modelling and facilitating life classes for others, artists Jane Fordham and Kate Shields explore these questions and others, offering their insights, observations and understanding of what Berger describes as ‘the professional secret’ in life drawing.
