2017 Georgia Chapter Investors Fair Presenters’ Educational Offerings

9:30 AM – 10:45 AM

Doug Gerlach—“Stock Analysis Master Class” -- Advanced Investors

As a framework for stock selection, the Stock Selection Guide offers unparalleled insight into the fundamental strength of a company. But as you grow in investing skill and understanding, there are advanced techniques that can employ that will open up new investing opportunities. Learn how to utilize pro-forma results for newly-public companies, replace GAAP data with non-GAAP, adjusted earnings (and learn when not to), fine-tune future P/E ratio estimates, identify downside sell prices, and use other methods not necessarily suited for beginners.

9:30 AM – 10:45 AM

Deane Jaeger---18% Return on Your Investment- Guaranteed” -- Any level of investor

You have heard the claims on late night TV guaranteeing spectacular returns on your investments. They sound almost too good to be true and there are many scams and crooks waiting to take your money. Knowing what to believe is difficult. However the big boys like banks, pension funds and insurance companies use certain types of investments to generate high returns with minimal risk. Come and learn about these little known yet intriguing alternative investments.

9:30 AM- 10:45 AM

Denise Kimbelin---“Applying Judgement to Your SSG” -- Intermediate Investors

Judgement – The “Heart” of the SSG. The quality of an SSG depends on the quality of the judgements that impact the results shown by the SSG. This class will review what judgements are required and how to decide what judgements to use.

10:55 AM – 12:10 PM

Cy Lynch---“Rethinking Investment Risk” -- Advanced Investors

This is a new class pulling together some themes that I've covered in past classes. The essence of it is two-fold: Volatility is not the same as risk and treating volatility as risk can be very harmful to our financial well-being.

10:55 AM – 12:10 PM

Howard Johnson---“SSG Core On-line” -- Beginner Investors

This course will be a combination of a PowerPoint presentation and a live demonstration of the BetterInvesting on-line Stock Selection Guide (SSG). This tool walks you step-by-step through the completion of the SSG. This class will not dwell on the judgement decisions involved in completing the SSG but only concentrate on the process.

10:55 AM– 12:10 PM

Doug Gerlach—“Surviving the Next Recession and Bear Market” -- All levels

For unprepared investors, recessions and bear markets can wreak havoc with a stock portfolio. However, armed with the right intelligence, the smartest stock picking approach, and sound portfolio management practices, investors can turn the market's disasters into opportunities. Doug Gerlach, Editor-in-Chief of the "SmallCap Informer" and "Investor Advisory Service" newsletters, will review his team's approach to stock selection before, during, and after down and sideways markets, and provide evidence for a savvy stock strategy based on the market's long-term directional biases.

12:30 PM – 1:10 PM

Lunch Time Speaker, Joseph Crapster from Duke Energy Co.

1:15 PM– 2:30 PM

Cy Lynch—“Selling Stocks-Part 1 Why Selling Matters” -- Intermediate Investors

When to sell stocks is one of the least covered topics in BetterInvesting classes and writing. This class examines the reasons one may sell stocks based on personal circumstances, portfolio-based considerations, company quality and stock valuation.

1:15 PM – 2:30 PM

Doug Gerlach—“Small-Cap Stock Clinic” -- Intermediate Investors

According to sound investing principles, a significant amount of a stock portfolio should be invested in smaller companies. However, finding and analyzing these stocks is often more complex than for larger companies. ICLUBcentral’s new SmallCap Informer newsletter offers up tips, insights, and investing ideas for small company stocks to help enhance you or your investment club’s portfolio. These 5 rules of common pitfalls to avoid in pinpointing small company opportunities, will help any investor increase his or her exposure to small company stocks.

1:15 PM – 2:30 PM

Deane Jaeger--- “Dividends: A Two Sided Story” -- (an update of his presentation at BINC 2016) -- Intermediate Investors

Dividends are not just for old people!! Finding stocks with growing dividends can be a vital part of your portfolio whether you are looking for monthly income or long term growth. Receiving a regular paycheck from your stocks is nice, watching the value of your portfolio grow is even better. You can do both with dividends. Attend this class to find out how.

2:40PM – 3:55 PM

Denise Kimberlin---“Beyond the SSG: Looking at Financial Statements Ratios” -- Advanced Investors

Once you’ve completed an SSG and narrowed down the stocks you are interested in, you may want to do more research, but where and what do you look at? This class will look at information on the financial statements and some basic ratios to help make a decision.

2:40 PM– 3:55 PM

Cy Lynch--- “Selling Stocks-Part 2 Building a Selling Discipline" -- Intermediate Investors

On of the hardest decisions for any long-term investor is deciding when to sell a stock. This class will explore using BetterInvesting and other tools to develop a discipline for selling to protect gains, minimize losses, manage portfolio risk and improve your overall total return over the long-term.

2:40 PM – 3:55 PM

Howard Johnson---“SSG Plus On-line” -- Intermediate Investors

This class will demonstrate some of the added features of the SSG Plus on-line tool. It will present the portfolio management capabilities, screening and research components of the program. Participants in this class should be comfortable with making the judgement decisions required in completing the SSG. Most of the presentation will be live and interactive.

4:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Ticker Talk. Each presenter will present one to two stocks he or she thinks is a good company for further research.
