Event description

California teachers are working hard to foster inclusive classrooms, spark learning and equip all students to succeed. Now more than ever, teachers deserve an opportunity to come together and share ways to support our students, protect our values as educators and set an example for the nation.

On Friday, July 28, join thousands of teachers from across California for a FREE day of learning featuring a TED-style EdTalk presented by a local teacher and Edcamp discussions led by teachers, for teachers. You will walk away with access to the latest strategies and tools you can bring back to your classroom, and connect to a lasting and powerful network of peers.

Together, we can ensure that every California student receives a quality education and is prepared to take on the challenges and opportunities ahead.

As you gear up for the Summit, follow us on Facebook and Twitter and join the conversation using #BetterTogetherCA.

A full program agenda will be available in the coming weeks.

8:00 am - 12:30 pm: Morning Session Only

12:30 pm - 3:30 pm: Lunch Provided + Design Thinking to Investigate the World and Take Action Workshop

Design Thinking to Investigate the World and Take Action

In this afternoon workshop, work with the team at World Savvy and California International Studies Project to learn how to help your students think globally and act locally, using the principles of design thinking and project based learning.

Develop empathy by learning about a global issue manifested locally, with veteran educators and a local community leader. Break out into groups to learn and practice design thinking as a way to introduce issues and set students up for authentic engagement with the issues. Walk away with newfound inspiration, and tools to authentically engage your students in the world beyond your classroom walls.

This video offers a glimpse into the World Savvy program and features examples of student “Knowledge to Action” plans. Check out for updates, details, resources and inspiration in preparation for SSU's unique Better Together event!

We are building an event app via CrowdCompass, and will share details as soon as it is available for download.
