Event description
This 2-hour course will provide a guide for using healthier and safer materials in design & construction for better buildings.

About this Event

This innovative new series on healthier buildings will explore the intersection of materials, carbon, and energy, providing a guide for healthy, low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings. For this first session, we welcome Lisa Carey Moore and Matt Root from Integrated Eco Strategy to discuss practical ways to incorporate healthier materials into your projects.

Product transparency is the current frontier in sustainable design, and the importance of building with healthier materials—for designers, contractors, and owners—cannot be understated. To help, Lisa Carey Moore and Matt Root from Integrated Eco Strategy will discuss practical ways to incorporate healthier materials into your projects. Knowledge is the key. Beginning with an overview of what material ingredients should be of concern to practitioners, they then move on to where chemicals of concern are found in the built environment, using the Green Science Policy Institute's Six Classes approach. They will offer proven strategies for selecting and managing the use of healthier building products. Participants will leave knowing answers to the questions “what does "healthier" materials mean?”, “what do I need to know to spec healthier materials?” and “which materials should I use?”.
