I’m a STAR

NPAC started the first-of-its-kind program called I’m a Star in 2015 to give students with intellectual challenges ability to perform for friends and family. There wasn’t a dry eye in the ballroom during the June 2016 I’m a Star performances at Naples Performing Arts Center. “These are the most beautiful people I’ve ever met,” said a tearful Lori Oliver. “These children and adults have the chance to challenge themselves in the awesome Special Olympics program, but they don’t have the opportunity to shine on the stage. I wanted to give them the opportunity to be a star!” With the support of community members NPAC is proud to announce that I’m a STAR is officially an all year program! Now, I’m a STAR students can learn theater vocabulary, choreography and team work throughout the year.

Scholarship Immokalee

Here at NPAC we strive to offer performing arts education & opportunities to all students in the SWFL community. Despite the importance of arts education to the development of children; often, it is the first program to be cut from public school education. There are only two thespian programs in all of Collier County. Furthermore, most theaters in our local high schools sit empty throughout the school year. Other than marching band, Immokalee High School students have no access to performing arts education. In the summer of 2015 Oliver spent a considerable amount of time in Immokalee seeing the complete lack of artistic opportunities. She taught them how to audition, and we recently awarded 12 gifted children the opportunity to train at NPAC. “It’s a dream come true,” 16-year old Rocky told Lori Oliver after the first rehearsal at NPAC. We want to provide the SWFL community with access to life-changing opportunities and that is the mission for the Scholarship Immokalee program.
