A virtual writer's room. A rare chance to work with master teacher Beth Lapides on developing your funniest most unique comedic voice.

About this event

What would it take for you to break through to your next level of creativity? Do you need help getting unstuck, sorting through the myriad of projects and ideas or focusing? Beth Lapides has the tools, system, passion and experience it takes to help move you forward.

This class meets four Tuesday Nights. July 20, 27. August 3, 10.

5PM PT till 7PM PT. Class size limited to 10.

Each participant will get a chance to present work and have Beth answer their concerns, questions and decisions. Individual assignments are given fo the next week. It's a mixed level class. If you have questions about whether it's right for you email bethlapides1@gmail.com.

Beth is a master teacher and muse as well as a recognized leader and innovator in the comedy world. She's a writer, producer, actor and host. She's been featured on Comedy Central, CNN's History of Comedy, on Sex & The City, on NPR's All Thing's Considered, O Magazine and many others.

She wrote about how and why she created UnCabaret as a cover story for the LA Weekly on the occassion of its 25th anniversary. She's hosted and produced UnCabaret for over 25 years including live and as a series on Amazon, a special for Comedy Central and a library on audible.

Beth is passionate about helping creatives get funnier, connect to their best stories, and figure out how to bring them to life. She has an amazing track record of helping comedians find their unique comedic perspective. Helping writers find the golden vein of their stories, and figuring out what to do with them in the marketplace. She is especially adept at helping creatives surf transitional periods in their creative lives.

Beth's students have gone on to succeed in stand up careers, TV writing, screenwriting, publishing books, one person shows, teaching, web series, acting careers, producing and better lives. She’s helped thousands of people fulfill their dreams, find their life purpose while getting funnier and having more fun.

Beth's taught both independently and at institutions such as UCLA Extension, Second City Chicago, IOWest, Skirball Cultural Center, mediabistro, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Actors Comedy Studio and The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

The workshop is perfect for anyone working on stand-up, storytelling, spoken word, content creation, memoir. Or anyone with the unexpressed creative urge. Yearning to know their story, to be funnier.

Beth Lapides, creator, producer and host, invites the most original and vital voices in comedy to share the stories that are ripped from the headlines of their own lives. Each show is a one time only night orchestrated to uplift and inspire.

WHERE

We're currently in residency at Rockwell Table and Stage on Second Sundays. We've had extended residencies at LunaPark, HBO Workspace, Skirball Cultural Center, The Knitting Factory, First & Hope/AuLac. We've toured and done pop-ups at The Getty, The Los Angeles Public Library Main Branch, The Laugh Factory, The Great American Music Hall, Knitting Factory NY, CAP/UCLA at The Theatre at Ace Hotel, Ace Palm Springs, Earlham College, Washington University and more.

We are an incubator and many projects, including Julia Sweeney’s 'God Said, Ha!' have come out of our Sunday nights.

Our .edu branch has been in operation for over a dozen years and our workshop, 'Infinite Writing' runs in 6 week cycles once a season in Los Anegles currently a Actors Comedy Studio. Beth Lapides teaches both this, the one day seminar 'You But Funnier', and works as a private creativity coach with clients and corporations. 

Classes have been presented by Second City Chicago, UCLA Extension, IOWest, The Skirball Cultural Center, mediabistro, Humber College for Comedy, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, LA Gay and Lesbian Center, PS 122, and Actors Comedy Studio.
