Description

"French film festival debuts in Idyllwild"

French Fun on the Hill invites film-makers, cinema-lovers, artists, students, polyglots and lovers of culture to the "Best of French Short Films from the Clermont-Ferrand Festival."

Now in its 40th year, Clermont-Ferrand is the largest film festival in France after Cannes--and arguably, the most competitive one in the world for short films.

Festival Kickoff

Don't miss the festival kickoff Friday, October 20 at Middle Ridge Winery Tasting Gallery (54301 N. Circle Dr.), featuring the Idyllwild premiere of award-winning writer/producer Gayla Kraetsch Hartsough’s retelling of France’s national love story—“Heloise.”

"Heloise is the story of what would have happened to Shakespeare’s 'Romeo and Juliet' if they had not committed suicide," Kraetsch Hartsough said. Converse with Kraetsch Hartsough and hear first-hand insights in her 'fireside chat,' "Behind the Camera and On the Set."

Film Screenings

The "Best" from the 2017 Clermont-Ferrand include Oscar-nominated, live-action fiction and animation ranging from Demis Herenger's depiction of a "kiss...at dusk" to Antoine Delacharlery's "...plunge into the guts of...Paris." Films are subtitled in English and will screen Saturday, October 21 at Idyllwild Library. Seating is limited; reservations are required by October 16.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information, email frenchfun92549@gmail.com.
