Can’t wait to ride the CicLAvia Mid-City meets Pico Union route? Want to be more comfortable and confident when cycling on city roads? Looking to gain the group riding skills that will prepare you for CicLAvia and other open streets events? Metro's Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST) Program Street Skills Class + Ride is a free event for adults and teens to practice safe riding with a group of beginning cyclists.

Join us for a special bike safety class and ride on Sunday, June 2 presented by Metro, People for Mobility Justice, and CicLAvia. This is a unique opportunity to preview the route for CicLAvia Mid-City meets Pico Union and explore the community before the open streets event takes place on Sunday, June 30. CicLAvia will transform Venice Blvd, 7th Ave, and Washington Blvd into public parks for the day and closing the streets to cars and opening them up for people of all ages and abilities to ride, walk, stroll, roll, run, and smile!

Space is limited and pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Register now to guarantee your spot!

All participants will get a free helmet and a set of bike lights!


DATE: Sunday, June 2, 2019

TIME: 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Who Should Sign-Up:

If you are comfortable getting on a bike and want to gain more experience bicycling on city streets in a group setting. This ride will apply practical skills and critical thinking in real-world settings.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Biking on City Streets: Rules of the Road / Navigating Common Hazards / Group Etiquette / Sharing Paths and Trails

  • Biking and Transit: Riding around Transit / Integrating bikes and transit / Metro Bike Share

  • Bike Services / Events Offered by Metro

What You’ll Need | Please Note:

  • A bike in good working condition. We recommend getting a tune up at your local bike shop if you haven’t ridden your bike in a long time or if you aren’t sure that it’s working well.
  • Bike Lock
  • Helmet (mandatory for anyone under 18)
  • Water
  • Sunblock

Registration & Waivers:

All participants must sign a waiver to participate; if the participant is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the minor.

Metro's Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST) Program currently offers bike classes at 4 different levels—Bike 1, 2, 3 & Bicycling 101. People for Mobility Justice seeds critical consciousness about mobility justice across all communities. As educators, we act as bridges that connect community expertise with urban planning and policy advocacy through professional development activities with a range of audiences. As facilitators, we create safe learning environments where diverse, rooted communities can come together to build consciousness around mobility justice. As advocates, we build champions for mobility justice within transportation equity policy and planning.
