Join the Best Buddies Challenge and Team B4 as we kick off the riding season with a ride for all levels of cycling. Learn about the Best Buddies Challenge and register to ride up to 100-miles on September 9, 2017 and raise funds for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The ride will feature four guided routes that riders will choose based on ability and experience. All routes will leave from Romanaroma Cafe and meet back afterwards to mingle with fellow riders.
A 65 mile ride with lots and lots of climbing; 5600 feet of elevation gain up and down the hills of the Palos Verdes peninsula with a side trip to San Pedro, ocean views abound! Only the strong will survive, riders will have earned a sweet reward by the time they return to Roman Aroma Cafe.
This is an advanced skill level ride, riders typically move at 20+ mph on flat terrain.
A 41 mile ride with plenty of climbing; 4000 feet of elevation gain, that’s almost 100 feet per mile! The route takes riders to the very top of the Palos Verdes peninsula, then loops around to take in views of Catalina Island before the slog up Hawthorne Blvd and the mostly, but not completely, downhill return to Roman Aroma Cafe.
A 40 mile ride with 2600 feet of elevation gain; the first 8 miles takes riders through the flatlands of Torrance, moderate climbing starts in Rolling Hills at the beginning of the hilly loop around the Palos Verdes peninsula. The route takes riders past PVE golf course, with a rest stop at Point Vicente Interpretive Center before continuing to the iconic 2 mile climb up the Switchbacks. Take a break at the top of the climb, then enjoy the downhill and the ride back to Roman Aroma Cafe.
This is an intermediate skill level ride, riders typically move at 16 - 18 mph on flat terrain
A 24 mile ride with 1600 feet of elevation gain; a beautiful ride to the Terranea Resort with some climbing but at a relaxed pace. From the Redondo Beach Esplanade riders head towards Palos Verdes Estates where ocean views are the reward for one’s efforts. Enjoy a break at Point Vicente Interpretive Center before the ride continues to the Terranea Resort followed by the return route that takes riders up the hill past PVE golf course, then descends to refreshments awaiting at Roman Aroma.
This is a beginner/intermediate skill level ride, riders typically move at 13 - 15 mph on flat terrain.
