Event description

Description

The British Ecological Society's Scottish Policy Group run an annual policy training workshop with the aim of generating an understanding of the policy environment in Scotland and how scientific evidence can feed into policy making.

This year it is being hosted by the University of Stirling at Stirling Court Hotel on the 9 November.

There will be a series of presentations in the morning, including:

  • An introduction to science policy in Scotland

  • Engaging with the Scottish Parliament

  • Giving scientific advice to Government – an agency view

  • Influencing policy - getting your message across

After a lunch there will be an interactive afternoon session to introduce the basics of communicating to policymakers. We will consider in particular how to alter the way in which we communicate to suit the particular communication route, and will explore this in more detail through a group exercise.

This training event will be of most benefit to is early career researchers looking to gain a better understanding of Scotland's policy environment and how best to engage with policymaking.

Registration is free but spaces are limited so booking is essential.

There is some funding available (up to £40) to BES members to help subsidies travel and / or accommodationfor the event, it may not cover your full costs. Please email Camilla directly if interested in applying for the funding. Camilla@britishecologicalsociety.org
