UPDATE: ticket pre-sale has ended, but tickets are still available so be sure to drop by. The Gibson Showroom is right across the street from the verizon center in Chinatown, right off the Green Line!

New venue, new performers and a new fire in the belly -- The Family Hemerlein music and comedy show rolls into the summer like a freight train filled with flaming baguettes. Where else can you see the best emerging alt comedy talent share the stage with the best thoughtful indie folk acts? Answer: Nowhere. It's the only show of it's kind in the city, and possibly the world.

This month the family room will be set up in the Gibson Guitar showroom space in the heart of Chinatown (across from Verizon Center), a unique and intimate room where Matthew Hemerlein and his ultra-talented partners can make themselves at home among the classic instruments and fancy digs. Take your seats, let's go through the line up!

From New York City comes Brooke Van Poppelen, award-winning cheeky comic and actor, whose most recent TV appearance was as Mikey's comedy instructor on American Chopper:

Which assignment she handled with her usual ironic aplomb, obviously, just like when she was nominated by ECNY as the Best Female Comic of 2009, or when she rocks the radio mic on Maxim, AOL or Chicago Public Radio. As you might guess, her act is clever, dirty,  wild and cerebral. You are guaranteed to enjoy it.

Headlining the musical portion of the show is Grammy-nominated brainy hip-hop guru Chrisstylez Bacon all the way from Southeast Dodge City. Chris travels the country, from the Kennedy Center to tiny schools in Idaho, accompanying himself with a blend of acoustic guitar playing, folk drumming, and beatboxing, while his real-deal flow always keeps it Golden-Age-positive. Oh and dressing fresh as I mean. His stage act is a full orchestra in a single crisp tweed vest, and once again you're guaranteed to enjoy it.

Opening the show is DC's dashing gentleman of comedy, Will Hessler, MC of Arlington Drafthouse's weekly comedy show and all around class act. He will delight and intrigue you, and it is guaranteed that you will enjoy the experience.

And of course, charming host and indie-folk prodigy Matthew Hemerlein will bring his bag of tricks and a bevy of musical collaborators to grace the stage with lighthearted excursions and transcendent moments. Expect some surprise guests, guys, really, we kind of guarantee you will have to enjoy it.

Tickets are $10. The doors open at 8pm for some very cheap drinks (promise!) that you can enjoy on the roof deck at the Showroom, and the show starts promptly at 9.

We guarantee you will enjoy the hell out it.
