Event Details

Benny Golson presents a jazz workshop/demonstration in celebration of the inauguration of the UCLA Global Jazz Studies IDP. Presented by The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and the Friends of Jazz at UCLA.

Jazz icon Benny Golson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 25, 1929. Golson has played in the bands of Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Earl Bostic, and Art Blakey. Few musicians can claim a recording career that literally redefines the term “jazz.” Benny Golson has made major contributions to the world of jazz with such standards as: “Killer Joe,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Along Came Betty,” “Stablemates,” “Whisper Not,” “Blues March,” “Five Spot After Dark,” and “Are you Real?” Benny Golson is the only living jazz artist to have written eight standards for the jazz repertoire. For more than 60 years, Golson has enjoyed an illustrious musical career and continues to impress critics, fans, and fellow musicians.
