Described by Entertainment Weekly as a “fuzzguitar blast“ andR.E.M.’s Michael Stipe a “future superstar,” BenjaminWagner churns up raucous, singalong melodies. Like David Gray or Pete Yorn, he just as adeptly takes a more haunting, contemplative tact. This new release marks his ninth studio album, including 2016’s “Great Lakes,” 2008’s “The Invention if Everything Else,” 2006’s “Heartland,” 2004’s “Love & Other Indoor Games,” 2002’s “Almost Home,” and 2001’s “Crash Site.”Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Wagner lived in Washington D.C., Indianapolis, and Chicago, before his tenth birthday. After his parents divorce, Wagner, his brother and mother moved to Philadelphia. Growing up in the 80s, he vividly recalls getting his first transistor radio and listening, transfixed, to top forty radio stations in Chicago, loving everything from Hall and Oates to Phil Collins.“But then my big brother brought R.E.M.’s Reckoning home from college,” Wagner laughs. “‘So. Central Rain’ changed everything.”Reveling in bands like the Replacements and the Pixies (Wagner does a twisted cover of the Pixies’ “Here Comes Your Man”), the young songwriter strapped on a Martin acoustic and began playing in bands in high school and later, at Syracuse University. There, Wagner fronted the funky, awardwinning local alt.pop band Smoky Junglefrog, opening for majors like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Samples and Dada.Wagner moved to New York City in 1994, and has performed Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall (where he met his now wife), Arlene Grocery, Sine, and Brownie’s.

Downstate Darlings are an alt/pop/rock band hailing from the Empire State. Drawing inspiration from the golden era of modern rock, the band's sound merges thecrunch of early-90's DGC records with the melodic sensibilities of earlier New Wave-rs like Elvis Costello, Squeeze, and Joe Jackson. The band comprises five longtime friends who cut their teeth alongside one another on NYC's indie music scene: Chris Abad (vocals/guitar), Tony Maceli (bass), Jamie Alegre (drums), Paul Maddison (guitar), Dan Golden (keys). The project started as a humble relaunching of Abad's solo work in 2017 after his multi-year hiatus from music. However, the band found immediate chemistry and began forging its own signature sound. Quickly gaining local notoriety for their high-energy live shows, Downstate Darlings have also been hard at work on their forthcoming debut EP, slated for release in mid-2018.
