Grammy nominated violinist, pianist, composer and educator, Benjamin Sutin has been residing in New York City for 8 years where he has made a mark as an eclectic, diverse and sought after violinist in a host of musical genres including jazz, latin jazz, rock, klezmer and middle eastern music, all of which has inspired his own original music. He began his career in Philadelphia, where he studied with legendary jazz violinist, John Blake Jr. Sutin has since performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, NJPAC, Lincoln Center, The Apollo Theater, Birdland Jazz Club, and The Kennedy Center, and has worked with the likes of David Amram, Transiberian Orchestra, The Big Apple Circus, Grant Calvin Weston, Banda Magda, Vince Giordano, Larry Harlow, Bobby Sanabria, Elio Villafranca, Don Friedman, Ronnie Burrage, and Billy Mintz, among others. Benjamin graduated from Manhattan School of Music in 2015 with a BM in Jazz Violin Performance and has since had the honor of being on Turtle Island String Quartet’s short list of prospective violinists, though hasn’t yet made the ensemble. When not performing you can find Benjamin teaching private violin lessons, jazz and improvisation, music theory, composition and more throughout the greater New York City area.

“A Hard Bop Hanukkah” has been in the making for several years now. As a teenager, Benjamin was asked to lead the congregation band at his temple in South Jersey. Every major holiday he would arrange songs for the band, always bringing his jazz sensibilities to the table. Now, years later as a professional, the music has been re-written and ready to hit the stage. Inspired by his Philadelphia jazz roots, hard bop has always been at the forefront of Benjamin’s musical palate. Come celebrate the 2nd night of Hanukkah and Benjamin’s Birthday at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3 to the sounds of your favorite Hanukkah classics with some of NYC’s finest jazz musicians.
