About the Trainer

Ashlea Lantz is a Senior Consultant with Griffin-Hammis Associates. Previously Ashlea was a Project Coordinator with the Iowa Coalition of Integrated Employment, a five-year Partnership in Employment Systems Change grant through the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Ashlea was also the Director of Employment at Candeo in Johnston, Iowa. Candeo is a 100% community-based organization, which does not provide any segregated employment services and does not operate any group homes. Ashlea started at Candeo as a job developer and quickly moved into a management role. At Candeo, Ashlea developed high-performance employment teams specializing in individual supported employment as well as customized employment. Under her leadership, Candeo’s supported employment team became one of the largest community-based employment providers in Iowa and helped set the expectation that employment is a reality for all. When Ashlea moved on from Candeo, the supported employment department had quadrupled in staff, outcomes, and revenue, supporting over two hundred individuals and operating nearly a million dollar budget. Despite its growth, the goal never changed from one person, one job at a time. Ashlea is the past president of Iowa APSE and was honored to receive National APSE’s Rebecca McDonald Award for Leadership. She has served as a member of Iowa’s Employment First State Leadership Mentoring Program (EFSLMP) leadership team where she focused on supporting community employment agencies building the capacity of their workforce. She is also a member of Iowa’s Olmstead Consumer Taskforce, and serves as the Employment Chair for the Taskforce. Ashlea is also a sibling of a person with a disability—she played a central role in the development of Iowa’s first Parent and Family Coalition, which focuses on family engagement and grassroots advocacy. Ashlea has also achieved a number of certifications and credentials related to the field. She received her certification in benefits planning from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She has also earned the distinction of a Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP). Ashlea completed her Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at Drake University in Des Moines in 2015.
