Event description

Description

The Minnesota Elder Justice Center (MEJC) is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to mobilize communities to prevent and alleviate abuse, neglect, and finanical exploitation of older and vulnerable adults. The MEJC focuses its work in four areas: (1) public awareness, (2) professional education and practice, (3) public policy and direct services.

The MEJC recently received funding from the Bremer Foundation to convene criminal justice and community partners across Minnesota to develop a model law enforcement elder abuse response policy. There will be four information gathering / listening sessions scheduled throughout Minnesota in early 2018. The first one has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in Bemidji from 11:30 – 3:00. Law enforcement, prosecutors, adult protection workers, long-term care ombudsman, aging services and domestic violence/sexual assault programs are all invited to attend and provide input into the development of the model policy.

Subsequent to the information gathering / listening sessions, selected professionals from across the state will convene to develop a draft of the model policy. The draft will be distributed to Minnesota law enforcement for final review and input. The finalized model policy will be presented and available for adaptation in the fall of 2018.
