Description

Belle-‘s Rope Bootcamp: From 0 to suspension in 8 weeks

This is an 8-week intensive course designed to take people new to rope from beginner to the ability to do a safe suspension at the end of the 8 weeks. This would be sold as a package with no one-off tickets being sold. The idea is that there is a series of classes that if taken together, they can be used to learn suspension. Having people come in and out over the 8 weeks is not conducive to that. This series has no prerequisites and assumes no prior rope knowledge. However students are expected to have or borrow suspension acceptable rope (nylon, mfp, hemp, or jute). This class will meet weekly for eight consecutive weeks for 2 hours per meeting (1 hr instruction, 1 hour guided practice time).

Week 1 – Tying and Untying - This class focuses on letting go of "traditional" forms and ties by focusing on listening to the rope and letting it tell you where it wants to go next. By not focusing on tying something correctly, we can bring our attention back to our partner in the scene frequently leading to a more connected and pleasurable scene for everyone.

Week 2 – Futomomo – The structure that will be studied during this class is the futomomo, sometimes called the frog tie, where the leg is bent back on itself. There are a variety of ways to tie this position and we will be studying the structures and logic behind the different varieties while applying the skills learned in the previous class.

Week 3 – 2 Rope TK - This chest harness is the foundation of much of the Japanese style bondage that you find here in the west. We are going to approach the TK from both a theoretical and technical approach, discussing not only the way to tie a basic 2-rope TK but also the components of a TK on a more conceptual level. This hands-on class hopes to give an understanding of both the why and the how of this tie. Be prepared to both learn a tie and think about and question this tie.

Week 4 – Rope handling - Rope handling is one of the best ways to speed up your tying and make your scene feel better for both top and bottom. What’s more, it is really a vital part of suspension as good rope handling skills allow tensions to be smoother, problems to be adjusted more quickly and easily, and prevents rope jams. This class focuses on the little things that can be done to improve your rope handling skills.

Week 5 – Not TKs - People choose not to use TKs for a variety of reasons while tying but unfortunately many of the harnesses out there that aren’t TKs don’t function in the same way. In this class, we are going to look at the functional parts of a TK and recombine them into a variety of different chest harnesses stable enough to be suspended but without the same risks or problems associated with TKs.

Week 6 – Hip harnesses - Hip harnesses when used in a suspension can increase the durability and sustainability of many different ties. During this class you will learn to tie a couple of different varieties and test them out on your bottom to see what feelings they like the most and what might work best for them.

Week 7 – Pre-flight briefing - This lecture-based class discusses the important things to know before starting suspension. We will cover evaluating a hard point, body mechanics, the physics of suspension, sensations for the bottom to expect, and suspension equipment. We will also cover how to tie uplines during this class in preparation for our suspension class.

Week 8 – Basic Suspension - You’ve made it through all previous 7-weeks. Now it is time to combine everything that you’ve learned and put someone in the air. All of our previous techniques will be used during this class. We will have everyone that wants to be in the air at least once and, time permitting, in multiple positions.
