Event description

Description

Acclaimed Kurdish poet Bejan Matur presents If this is a lament, a new chapbook of her poems, with English translations by Jen Hadfield. Join us for an electrifying hour of poetry in Kurdish, Turkish and English, by a pair of poets whose work explores the language of landscape and of home. The reading will be followed by a Q&A.

Bejan Matur is a multi-award-winning Kurdish poet and writer, currently living in London. She is a leading figure in the bold new women's poetry emerging from the Middle East. She is the author of nine collections of poetry and has also written prose book and words for the stage.

Jen Hadfield was born in Cheshire and lives in Shetland, whose landscape and natural life persistently informs her work. She is the author of three poetry collections, including the T.S. Eliot Prize-winning Nigh-No-Place, and is currently Writer in Residence at Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art, supported by Creative Scotland.

If this is a lament was translated by Jen Hadfield working collaboratively with the translator and writer Canan Marasligil.

Presented in partnership with the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, with support from Arts Council England
