Event description

Description

Non-violent (or compassionate) communication operates from the assumption that we are all equals: your needs matter as much as my needs. This applies in all contexts. The parent's needs matter as much as the child's. The supervisor's needs matter as much as the employees's needs. The teacher's needs matter as much as the student's needs.

But what does that look like? Is there a limit to how much NVC we can use out there in the "real" world? How can I be in a position of power and honor everyone's needs, without "giving away" power and without abusing my power? How can I be in a position with less power and claim that I my needs matter?

There are (at least) two layers around the transformation that is waiting for you.

  • The first one is to understand how NVC applies in organizational contexts and how we can foster a feedback-rich environment.
  • The second layer is to practice of how to claim that space, in our actions and our words.

During this webinar, Jerry Koch-Gonzalez will show how to apply NVC in organizations and give some examples of what this would actually sound like.

While it is perfectly fine to only attend the webinar, in the practice groups associated with this event, groups can share and practice with real-life examples from the participants' organizational lives. Using NVC takes a lot of practice! Jerry will coach these groups:

Sign-ups for these practice groups are separate from the webinar.

  • Practice group A meets on three Thursdays in January 1-2.30pm Eastern Time.
  • Practice group B meets on three Fridays in January 7-8.30am Eastern Time.
  • Practice group C meeting on three Tuesdays in late January/February 9-10.30am Eastern Time.

Additional practice groups might be offered depending on the demand. (Send us an email.)

Jerry Koch-Gonzalez is a certified NVC trainer and has worked as a trainer and consultant all of his adult life.

This webinar is hosted by the non-profit Sociocracy For All (SoFA) which Jerry co-founded. While NVC focuses on equivalence between individuals in conversation, sociocracy applies equivalence to organizations. SoFA teaches sociocracy to workshop participants all over the world. (See this 1min video on sociocracy and this 9 min video on the relationship between NVC and sociocracy.)
