Event description
Do you strive to be a trauma-informed CASA? Want to learn how to best support traumatized youth?

About this Event

Join VOICES and Molly Strothkamp, MSW, LCSW, IHM-E, Child Therapist and Training Coordinator for Southwest Human Development, as CASA volunteers learn an overview of the importance of relationships, trauma, the impact of trauma on young children, feelings and behaviors young children may exhibit, and how caregivers and others can help. This training will cover how relationships develop in infancy and early childhood and how those relationships impact a child's sense of themselves and sense of the world, as potential protective or risk factors. While the information is focused on the development of relationships birth to five, it applies for older children by considering their early history and the impact of early history on their current sense of safety in the world. Time will be spent considering the CASA role and how CASAs may help children utilize primary caregivers to support their sense of safety.

*Note: a small lunch will be provided
