Description

*This event requires a minimum of 10 registered guests by Friday, April 10 to activate. If the minimum is not met by then, the event will be canceled or postponed to a later date.

While more than a million visitor from around the world enjoy the sprawling gardens and world-class exhibitions at the New York Botanical Garden each year, there's a section of the Garden that only the world's top researchers, botanists, and scientists get to see — now's your rare chance to visit some of the most advanced botanical research facilities in the world.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive, once-a-year opportunity as we explore the highly advanced research facilities at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) — founded in 1891, this 250-acre Garden in the Bronx is a treasured National Historic Landmark, and remains the largest in any city in the United States.

Led by various botanists, scientists, and researchers, our behind-the-scenes experience through the New York Botanical Garden research buildings will include:

  • The Pfizer Plant Research Facility — this state-of-the-art scientific laboratory studies plants on the molecular level, to better understand everything from DNA sequencing to how genes affect plant structure & development. We'll get a close-up look at areas including the refrigeration storage room — where plant specimens are stored before, and after, getting analyzed — and the research bay, filled with high-tech microscopes and other scientific equipment.

  • The Steere Herbarium — internationally recognized as the second-largest herbarium in the world, this massive plant archive contains approximately 7.8 million dried and pressed specimens, which provides a physical record of what certain species look like, and how they grow over time. We'll visit the digitization room — where the archived physical specimens are scanned and cataloged into an online database — and the Herbarium Archive to look at some of its most prized pieces, including a specimen from Charles Darwin's Voyage of the Beagle.

Afterward, we'll have the chance to explore the gorgeous grounds on our own for the rest of the day!

See you there!
