Event description

Description

Join New York Adventure Club for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Church of the Transfiguration, one of the oldest and most famous churches in New York City.

Our experience at this 168-year-old English neo-gothic Episcopal church, known as the “Little Church Around the Corner,” will include:

  • A look the oldest stained glass pieces in the country along with works by John LaFarge and his student Jessie Van Brunt
  • A visit to the memorial tablets and windows of famous actors like Rex Harrison, Cornelia Otis Skinner, and John Drew due to the church’s strong ties with the theater
  • A discussion around the church’s Underground Railroad network during the Civil War Draft Riots
  • An exclusive visit to the hidden Episcopal Actors’ Guild headquarters on the second floor, which has been a spiritual haven for actors since the 1920s, including the great Edwin Booth.
