About The Discussion - Getting The Gig

How do you get out of the bedroom and onto the stage? Who do you talk to, how do you find them, and what do you say?

More than a demo alone, getting booked for gigs is about being able to sell yourself as the person for the job. Knowing the specific types of value that bookers look for, the different expectations they have between headlining and support roles, and delivering a pitch that demonstrates understanding, value, and trust for the position you're being hired for.

In this edition of Behind The Scenes we will be breaking down the entire process of Getting The Gig in detail - starting with an inside look at the the booking process itself, how promoters and venues work together and independently for bookings, what they look for when choosing acts, and the various market and industry factors at work. We will be taking an in-depth look at the three primary types of value that artists bring, how they affect and influence each other, why promoters book artists who maximize a specific type for different roles and timeslots, and how these change under different circumstances and scaling. Bringing all of this together we will be discussing how to develop a personalized pitch for both in-person and email approaches, identifying entry points, demonstrating value, and utilizing the correct words and body language to sell yourself not only as a musician, but as a business opportunity.
