Behind the Scenes of Crisis Communications and Social Media at San Diego International Airport

When you run a high-profile, 24/7 operation like the San Diego International Airport, you have to communicate continuously with numerous stakeholders both internally and externally. The pressure is on to ensure the traveling public, the community, the media, your employees, and your airline partners stay informed and calm during a crisis – whether it’s during San Diego’s 2011 blackout, traffic delays, or safety threats.

When you’re constantly under the microscope, how do you effectively and efficiently communicate to those who need to know? And how do you navigate the demand for instant information while balancing the regulatory requirements of government agencies like TSA and the Harbor Police?

Join us for breakfast at San Diego International Airport on April 17 to learn more about the team’s crisis communications plans and how social media has become an invaluable tool.

And after breakfast, join us for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the airport. You’ll learn more about the inner-workings of an airport located in an urban setting, dealing with environmental organizations, and more. Spots for the tour are limited, so sign up soon!

Please park in Lot 7, which is the Commuter Terminal parking lot, accessible from Harbor Drive. If Lot 7 is full, overflow parking is available in Lot 8. Bring your parking ticket with you and we will validate. 

 

About Our Speaker

Diana Lucero

Diana Lucero is the Director of Public Relations at the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. Ms. Lucero provides public relations strategic counsel to executive management on issues impacting the credibility, image and reputation of the Airport Authority. She directs all media responses for all issues of the agency as well as customer relations efforts and art programs for San Diego International Airport.

Ms. Lucero has worked for the Airport since 1995 when it was part of the Port of San Diego. At the Port, she served as Director of Communications. Prior to the working at the Port, Ms. Lucero was a Supervising Health Information Specialist for the County of San Diego’s Department of Public Health and also worked in public relations at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista.

Ms. Lucero is a member of the Transportation and Marketing Committees of the South County Economic Development Council and a member of the national Public Relations Society of America. She was named the Deborah Baker Public Relations Professional of the Year in 2011 by the Public Relations Society of America, San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter.

Ms. Lucero has a degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations from San Diego State University. She is fluent in Spanish. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her family and dabble in interior design.
