Event description

Description

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes experience at the American Academy of Arts & Letters, an honor society of 250 architects, composers, artists, and writers.

Led by the academy’s historian, our unique experience will include:

  • An overview of the academy and the member election process — members of the Academy are elected for life and pay no dues, and the honor of election is considered the highest formal recognition of artistic merit in the United States
  • A private tour through the landmarked Audubon Terrace Complex building built in 1923, which is closed to the public
  • A visit to the members’ rooms, portrait gallery, library, and current exhibition gallery
  • A look at the recreated studio of composer Charles Ives, which was installed as a permanent exhibit in 2014

If we’re lucky, we’ll pay a visit to the rarely visited auditorium designed by Cass Gilbert, which is sought out by musicians wishing to record live as the acoustics are considered among the world’s finest.
