Event description

Description

The purpose of this conference is to hold a conversation regarding mental health resources within our community and to identify the gaps of needed care. There will be two guest speakers present: Tommy Nelson, Senior Pastor of Denton Bible Church in Denton, Texas and Eric Nadel, "The voice of the Texas Rangers". Both speakers will share their struggle with depression on a personal or family level. In addition there will be community officials serving on a panel for open discussion with a moderator present. A continental breakfast and a lunch will be served.

People don't understand mental illness. And they don't want to talk about it. Yet 3 out of 4 Texans have a family member who have experienced a mental health issue, which could include anxiety, bipolar disorder or clinical depression. Suicide is the leading cause of death among college students, but of the 254 counties in Texas, 174 don't have a single psychiatrist or psychologist. Our community could stand a conversation. And so here it is.

Our two guest speakers, Tommy Nelson and Eric Nadel will highlight our day as they share personal and family mental health struggles.

The conference will bring two community panels on stage with local health care, law enforcement, education, governmental and clergy professionals. We'll discuss collaborating and taking action. We'll discuss the future of mental health in our area.
