The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance of New York
invites you to a special webinar on geriatric mental health entitled

     Behavioral Activation for Depression:

A Short-Term Intervention for Older Adults

presented by

Virna Little, Psy.D.
Senior Vice President of Psychosocial Services and Community Affairs
Institute for Family Health

Cost: $25.00 per person

Join us to learn about behavioral activation, a short-term intervention that has been shown to relieve the symptoms of depression. Behavioral activation is drawn from the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy, but it emphasizes the impact that people's behaviors and their environments have on their moods. This approach helps older adults re-engage in important and meaningful activities, and it can be administered by a wide variety of professionals in diverse settings.

This event takes place online. Instructions for joining this webinar will be e-mailed to you after you register.

For questions about this event, contact Greg Holzheimer at or (212) 614-5753.

Social Workers may apply for Continuing Education Credit (CEU) for this webinar. CEUs cost $25.

The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance of NY

The Mental Health Association of New York City established The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance in January 2004. The Alliance was formed to confront the mental health challenges of the elder boom and to promote critical changes in practice and policy.

The goal of The Alliance is to promote improved geriatric mental health practice by identifying best and innovative practices, identifying barriers to their use, developing policy proposals to overcome these barriers, and advocating for policy and practice changes. To this end, The Alliance sponsors consensus groups on topics related to geriatric mental health; a series of presentations on best practices with national experts; and numerous conferences. In addition, the Alliance provides technical assistance regarding service models and funding including how to optimize Medicare funding.
