Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving

Saturday, September 9, 9:00am - 3:30pm

Instructor: Nancy Niemeyer

$75 WGGC members / $100 non-members + $5 loom rental fee payable to the instructor

Level: Beginners - no previous weaving experience needed

Class Limit: 5

Rigid Heddle weaving is a great way to get started weaving in a simple way. Rigid heddle looms are inexpensive, portable, and quick to warp. You will learn to direct warp a rigid heddle loom with easy to find knitting yarn, learn the basics of weaving, and create a beautiful plain weave scarf of 5 to 7 feet in just 6 hours. Loom kit rental from the teacher is an additional $5, payable at class. The loom rental includes all needed supplies other than your yarn.

No previous weaving experience needed.

Supplies: Two (2) balls of Lion Brand Tweed Stripes yarn which is available at Joann stores and atbrandtweedstripesyarn/10181832.html. (More color options are available online than at stores.) Buy two balls of the same colorway.

One (1) ball of James C. Brett Marble Chunky. (You will have enough left over to make another scarf or knit a hat.) Marble Chunky is available locally at Silk Road Textiles and many retailers online.

Bring a lunch and beverages.  A refrigerator and microwave are available to use.

Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati

The Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. was created in 1948 as a non-profit educational organization to promote interest in handweaving. Today, the Guild offers education in a wide range of fiber processes and techniques, including weaving, felting, spinning, basketry, knitting, and dyeing. Guild members are from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and surrounding communities, as well as from Kentucky and Indiana.

Members range in experience from beginners to professionals. All benefit from the Guild's priorities: education through classes, workshops, programs, study groups; sharing information and fiber techniques with other members and community groups; and promoting and supporting local fiber producers and businesses.

After 50 years of meeting in various churches throughout Greater Cincinnati, the Guild has its own home at 4870 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village.
