Event description

Description

Have you ever been to a quilt show and admired the skill and artistry of quilting? This class is designed for the novice sewer to introduce the basic skills of quilting in a practical manner. Each class session will have students create a useful quilted item from beginning to end, introducing specific skills needed for the art and craft of quilting.

This is a 4 week class occurring on Fridays, 10am to 2pm from September 13 to October 4.

Students should have working knowledge of their own sewing machine, which they should bring to each class in addition to the materials listed below for each session. Please plan to bring a lunch in addition to class materials.

Sept. 13th – Halloween Tote Bag: Perfect for trick or treating or October accessorizing, this project will help students learn to quilt using the decorative stitches on your machine and how to piece a simple quilt so that points match up properly. All fabrics will be provided for this class. Bring your machine, black thread, scissors, rotary cutter and cutting mat. Also, each student should bring a crib size piece of quilt batting that they will use throughout the four classes.

Sept. 20th – Fourth of July Picnic Placemat: A roll up mat with space to secure silverware and a napkin--perfect for picnics, potlucks, or office lunch rooms. This project will teach students to put a binding on your quilt. Each student is asked to bring one yard of a patriotic fabric to share with the class. We will be sharing fabrics so that each place mat will have a number of different fabrics included. Bring your machine, red and white threads, rotary cutter and mat.

Sept. 27th – Fall table runner: A beautiful triangle pattern runner will keep dishes from scratching your dinner table and look good when not set for a meal. This project will help students learn to piece fabrics together in a mor intricate design than previous projects. Each student should bring a yard of TWO different fall theme fabrics. We will be sharing fabrics so that each table runner will have a number of different fabrics included. Bring your machine, neutral colored thread, rotary cutter and mat.

Oct. 4th – Christmas Casserole Cover: Learn to make a versatile cover that will help you carry all your “bring a dish” items to your holiday parties. Each student should bring one yard of holiday fabric that they will use to make this project. Wooden parts needed will be provided by the instructor.
