Event description

Description

Have you thought about becoming a beekeeper but don't feel that you have the skills and understanding necessary to get started? Join USU Extension and Professional Beekeeper Richard Homer to learn all the 'ins and outs' of first year beekeeping. We will discuss and demonstrate many of the techniques and skills required to be successful in keeping bees, dealing with common problems, harvesting honey, and more. In addition to the 3-hour comprehensive class, participants are invited to three hive inspections with our professional beekeeper. Inspections are held once during the three active seasons of beekeeping and will help you understand the lifecycle of honeybees and the seasonal tasks that are associated with beginning beekeeping. This is a perfect opportunity to ask questions, see how problems are handled in the hive, and deepen your understanding of bees, their lifecycle, and how they work and function. Hive inspections will be held at the USU Botanical Center Apiary on 4/13/19, 7/13/19, and 10/12/19 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Questions should be directed to Sheriden at 435-919-1335.

**Pre-paid registration for class must be completed prior to January 31, 2019. There will be no day of class registration or payment, so please purchase registration through Eventbrite.**
