About this event

Beginners Photography Course – £99

One day course – learning to use your camera in aperture (AV/AP), time (TV/TP) and full manual modes – Level 1 course

There are a maximum of 4 students per course.

The who, the what, the when and the where…

Who is the course for?

This is a digital camera course and you would need a camera that is capable of being manually controlled. ie it must be able to allow you to selectively change the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. if you are not sure then please pop a message over with your camera make and model and I can check for you. [I do have a couple of basic Canon DSLR’s that can be borrowed for the course if needed. This must be specified on the enrolment form]

This is a beginners course and is aimed at people who would like to be able to get the most out of their camera. Mainly for beginners, or people who would like a better understanding of how aperture, shutter speed and ISO help us take control of the photograph. This will give you the creative control to ‘get’ the photo you want, and not let the camera decide what it thinks you want. It will give you the skills to be more confident in taking control of your camera and ‘creating’ photographs that you envisage.

This is an adults only course.[ However, if you have child that would like to learn photography please get in touch and we can arrange a school/youthclub/cubs workshop. ]

We do a fair amount of walking, approximately 1-3 miles over the course of the day. The bulk of the course is delivered in a practical way on the streets of manchester, so good footwear and sensible clothing will be required. We don’t stop for rain !

What you will learn:

  • What the exposure triangle is.
  • The relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
  • How to take your camera off auto and create images rather than allowing the camera to make the decision
  • Better composition.
  • When to use different modes on your camera.
  • Learn your camera’s functions and what all those buttons do
  • How to use the aperture and shutter speed creatively
  • Be able to use your camera in manual mode

Upon signing up for the course you will receive a questionnaire, it will ask what you would like to learn form the course and any objectives you would like to accomplish. The course is very flexible and is partly led by the students abilities during the weekend.

When is the next course?

There are courses available 2 or 3 weekends most months, please select the date you require when booking below.

Starting at 10 am we break for lunch at 12.30 for 30 minutes and then continue till 4pm. There is a good chance that we will run over, so if you plan for staying an hour or so later then that is fine. It’s nice to have a relaxed Q and A after the day with a beer, wine or coffee..

Where does the course take place?

The course will take place in Manchester City Centre.

What you will need

Please ensure that you bring your, camera, at least one lens, your camera manual (if possible), memory cards and charged batteries. Good footware, sensible clothing for Manchester weather. A notebook, pen, water bottle, lunch money or butties
