Basics of Vegetable Gardening in Central Florida
Tues. March 21st  6:30-8:00pm 
New to Florida and like to grow your own vegetables, this class is for you. Learn to grow vegetables including soil preparation, adjusting soil pH, fertilizing, irrigation, pests and diseases. Gardens may be grown year-round in Florida.
 
Organic Methods in the Home Vegetable Garden
Tues. March 23rd 6:30-8:00pm 
Growing your own food naturally or organically requires no special tools or special tonics to be successful. Learn about organic gardening including soil building techniques, disease and insect control, use of organic material to improve you sandy Florida soil, organic fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides and more.


Pest Management in the Home Vegetable Garden
Tues. March 28th 6:30-8:00pm 
Where did all the bugs come from, they weren’t in the vegetable garden last year? Learn basic information about integrated pest management (IPM) from the first steps of identifying the pest, determining if there is a need for control and the most environmentally friendly control methods to use for insect and disease problems in the home vegetable garden.
 
Alternatives to Traditional Vegetable Gardening
 Tues. March 30th  6:30-8:00pm 
You do not have to grow your vegetables in the backyard garden soil. Learn the basic information about alternative methods including containers, raised beds, grow boxes, and hydroponic methods.
 
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for materials and seating. Deadline is 2 days before class date, unless otherwise indicated.

Payment policy: Pre-registration is required along with the non-refundable class registration fee. All ticket sales are final, no refunds. If you prefer to pay by cash or check, please visit our office at 6021 S. Conway Rd. Orlando, FL 32812 from Monday – Friday from 8am-5pm. Call 407-254-9200 first to see if tickets are available for purchase.

Cancellation policy: Classes are subject to cancellation if a minimum number of attendees are not booked. If class is cancelled you will receive a notification, and a refund confirmation to the e-mail that is provided during the registration process. Refunds for class cancellations may take up to 30 days to process if registration fee is paid by cash or check.

The University of Florida/IFAS Extension in Orange County is an educational institution providing unbiased, research-based information to the residents of Orange County, FL. 

The Urban Horticulture program disseminates information about (1) residential horticulture including plant selection, lawn care, landscape design, plant problem diagnostics; (2) Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Principles, by encouraging residents to conserve and protect our water resources; and (3) other urban horticulture topics such as growing your own food in backyard and community garden settings and by presenting a variety of landscaping and gardening education programs including the Florida Master Gardener Volunteer Program.
