We will explore the reasons for backpacking, related activities such as communing with the environment, camping, etc. We will discuss definitions and aspects of backpacking.

The course will also cover the fundamental outdoor skills and basic techniques needed for safe and enjoyable adventures on the trail. Practical subjects like what gear to take and what to leave behind, tips on planning a hike, how and where to hike, how to pack, types of camping, how to set up/maintain/break camp, how to dress, basic trail navigation, essential items to pack, nourishment and hydration on the trail and much, much more. In fact, we have so much good information to share that we have to offer this class over two different nights.
