Description

Beijing Opera is more than just music; it is a systhesis of song, speech, dance-acting, mime, martial arts, colorful costumes and complex makeup. As one of the most multifaceted and fascinating theatrical forms in the world, Beijing Opera was registered as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.

DC Beauty of Beijing Opera Ltd (DCBBO), together with the Confucius Institute U.S. Center, is pleased to offer a 10 class beginner’s series for Beijing Opera fans every Saturday from March 4th through June 3rd. During these weekly classes, particpants will learn the funadamentals of Beijing Opera perfomring style including basic movements and water sleeves of female roles. At the end of the class, selected participants will be invited to perform on the stage of the DCBBO Annual Beijing Opera Gala to be held at Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center on June 25, 2017.

Classes will be held at the Confucius Institute U.S. Center every Saturday, beginning March 4th, from 10:30am to 12:00pm.

Eventbrite registration is free. The tuition fee for 10 classes is $100. Please prepare to pay fees upon arrival on the first day of class. Cash and checks are accepted.
