On October 19th, the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability will hold its 2017 Ethics Day "Ethics Transparency and Accountability", a full-day of ethics trainings and presentations! This year’s program will be geared toward educating participants on the many ethical standards, including political activity restrictions, Code of Conduct rules, legal ethics, the Council’s ethics rules, and Open Government compliance. BEGA has partnered with several government agencies to provide information on how the ethics standards coincide with the functions of the government. Ethics Day is open to all employees of the executive and legislative branches, and members of the public. Please use the "Select A Time" button, then click the "Register" button to sign-up for each session.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: BEGA Monthly Board Meeting

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Lunch Break - Refreshments

1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.: Ethics Overview – An overview of the Ethics course traditionally provided to government employees by BEGA each month. BEGA will reveal six short ethics videos – Ask Ms. Ethics!

1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Political Activity Training featuring BEGA and the Office of Campaign Finance – “Government Employee or Politician, Choose” - The session will provide a detailed review of the rules for permissible political activity by government employees, including the local Hatch Act, and campaign related activity during government time and using government resources.

2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.: Financial Disclosure Statement Training – “Wait, I’m a Filer?” - The session will inform employees of the rules surrounding filing a financial disclosure statement. It will also provide information to ethics counselors and employees who file financial disclosure documents.

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Emerging Best Practices on the Release/Retention of Government Records on Social Media - OOG will host a panel discussion surrounding the emerging practices for handling the release and/or retention of government records on social media, and other technology driven formats.

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: D.C. Council's Code of Conduct - “I work for the Council, What Rules Apply?” - Training regarding the Ethics Act and the Council's Code of Conduct.

4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.: Gifts Training featuring BEGA and the Office of Partnerships and Grants– “It’s not a Bribe, It’s a Gift, or is it?” - The session will offer a more in-depth review of the gift rules.

4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: The Office of the Inspector General - OIG will present information regarding its procedures and functions; how to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse; and other relevant information.

5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.: Legal Ethics for Government Attorneys, co-sponsored by the D.C. Bar - Training for government attorneys on the legal ethics rules provided in the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct.

5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.: Updates in the World of Ethics - This session will include national trends in government ethics, recent advisory opinions (both BEGA and Federal OGE), notable ethics cases, and pending legislation.
