Our not-so-basic introductory class is a rather sophisticated tour of the beer experience we conduct for both the public and our own staff, during which we spill some of the best-kept secrets of the Cannibal Beer Sommelier. This class is more challenging and complex than common “intro to beer” classes, but don’t be intimidated! We’ll be right by your side the whole time to help you extract a great deal of practical knowledge from the vast world of beer. There’s a lot to cover, but everything’s going to be ok. Probably. The class will examine common beer ingredients and flavors through the lenses of fun, history, tasting technique, better shopping, and science, and will also guide you through the grueling business of — you guessed it — tasting beer. (please no perfume or Cologne)

Beer Journeys take place in the Cannibal Road Garden, which the Village Voice called, “…an idyllic outdoor garden,” where, “the frenetic din of Midtown becomes a distant memory.”

All participants will:

· SUBMIT to the principle that beer is the world’s greatest beverage

· RECEIVE beer samples, a little buzz, and some snacks; charcuterie, cheese, and salty bits

· NAVIGATE the craft beer aisle under the watchful eyes of our seasoned professionals

· LEARN what particular flavor profiles and attributes they like best in beer

· DISCOVER how to get the most from the beer they buy

· EXPERIENCE the harmonious sensations created by successful pairings

· DEVELOP an appreciation for the many wildly diverse styles of beer

· TASTE nearly everything involved in beer production and service, from grain to glass

· ENJOY a 10% discount valid for retail Beer & Butcher purchases made immediately after class

Must be 21 or over to attend. This class requires no prior beer knowledge, just an eagerness to explore new boundaries. Perfect for individuals, couples, or large groups (packages available). Various class-levels will include several beer samples that explore flavor profile, history, chemistry, biology, technology, geography, brewing ingredients, how to taste beer and pair it with food. Beer samples are for educational purposes, not intended to cause inebriation. Be aware that Beer (and food) samples will contain Gluten, and may also contain Lactose, Nuts, Fruits or other Food Ingredients. Use of recording devices is not allowed.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or age restrictions to enter the event?

You must be 21 or over to attend this event. Identification will be required upon check-in for class attendance and post-class purchases.

What are my transportation/parking options for this event?

Using the MTA Subway is the best way to travel to the Cannibal (original 29th Street location between Park and Lexington). Exit the 6-train at the 28th Street stop, Walk one block North to 29th Street, then walk 1/2 block East. The entrance with our signature red awning will be on your left at 113 E. 29th St.

For on-street parking please follow all city parking signs, or use the parking garage 1 block west (between Park and Madison).

What can/can't I bring to the event?

All you need to bring is your valid state-issued identification to verify your age for both the class and subsequent purchases.

Beer samples, snacks, and reference materials will all be included. Outside food and beverages are not permitted.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

If you have already purchased tickets and are unable to attend, someone else may take your place* (restrictions and transfer fees apply). To request such transfers please send an email (from same address used to purchase tickets) to the admin at eric@thecannibalnyc.com.

What is the refund policy?

Because your ticket represents a held seat for the class we are unable to offer refunds once purchase is complete. If 10 days’ notice is given you may reschedule for a future class of equal or lesser price* (restrictions and transfer fees apply).

In the event that The Cannibal cancels the class, a full refund will be given.
