Event description

Description

Join Dan Ziehli, WI State Bee Inspector, and the Sugar River Beekeepers, for the first of three workshops to learn about the all-important pollinator, the Honey Bee. During this session, you will learn:

  • Honey bee hive types and which is best suited to your hobby
  • Questions to ask when purchasing honey bees and equipment
  • Current beekeeping laws
  • Proper queen installation
  • Honey bee pest and disease identification

In addition, you will participate in hands-on learning exercises:

  • Honey bee package installing,
  • NUC installing,
  • Frame construction,
  • Mixing honey bee feeds,
  • Proper bee medications and placement

The other two workshops will be held in June 2018 (on-farm visit) and Fall 2018 (preparing your bees for winter). You can attend as many as you would like. Attendees of this first workshop will receive announcements of future ones.

Capital Supply Co. will also be present with a display of beehive kits and beekeeping supplies.

Upon completion of these workshops, attendees should feel confident to be successful and sustainable beekeepers, regardless of weather, using organic or non-organic beekeeping methods.
