About this Event
We're particularly excited for this conversation as we will joined by Samantha Musgrave of Project Waves who will talk about how we can ensure our communities have access to reliable and affordable internet.
When school facilities closed in March 2020 a broad coalition convened and secured $3 million for devices and internet for students to continue learning from home. The BEE organizing alliance reinforced the demands of Students Organizing a Multicultural Open Society (SOMOS) to improve access to reliable, high speed internet. This student-led organizing resulted in Comcast doubling the speeds for the internet essentials program not just for Baltimore but across the country.
BEE’s agenda to continue advancing digital equity also includes redistributing resources for the expansion of broadband to include rural and urban communities and increasing the baseline broadband speed at both the state and federal level.
