Bedtime Behaviors: The ABA Approach to Sleep Associations

This 1.5 CEU course explores how Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies can be used to understand and improve bedtime behaviors by addressing sleep associations that impact children’s ability to fall and stay asleep. Participants will learn practical intervention techniques to promote independent sleep routines and reduce sleep-related challenges.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify common sleep-related challenges in children and describe how behavior analytic principles can be applied to assess and address these challenges, including sleep onset delays and nighttime awakenings.
  2. Explain the role of sleep associations and how maladaptive versus adaptive associations can influence sleep behavior, using ABA-based interventions to promote independent sleep routines.
  3. Design an individualized intervention plan that incorporates stimulus control, fading techniques, and reinforcement strategies to improve bedtime behaviors in clinical and home settings.
