Lift Every Voice Legacy in partnership with Communities of Color Coalition presents a virtual event "Becoming Brave" - A tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Inspiring a beloved community in song, spoken word and dance.

Featuring Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil. Highly acclaimed speaker, author, professor and reconciliation thought leader. Associate Pastor of Preaching at Quest Church - Seattle.

Also joining us will be our own local Northside Step Team, beloved gospel-jazz vocalist Josephine Howell, musician Al Price, and guest speakers Cirila Potter & Mikayla Weary.

Our Beloved Community awards will be presented to individuals in our community that are stepping up and creating positive change.

This is a FREE virtual event and donations are welcome to help keep our programming going to lift up the voices of those who are changemakers.

About Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil

Rev. Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil is a dynamic speaker, author, professor and reconciliation thought leader. Her mission is to inspire, equip and empower the next generation of Christian leaders to be practitioners of reconciliation.

Dr. Brenda is an Associate Professor of Reconciliation Studies at Seattle Pacific University, directing the Reconciliation Studies program. She is also the Associate Pastor of Preaching and Reconciliation at Quest Church in Seattle.

Dr. Brenda is an international trailblazer, leading individuals, communities, and organizations to biblical reconciliation. She was featured as one of the 50 most influential women to watch by Christianity Today in 2012.

She is the author of Roadmap to Reconciliation 2.0, A Credible Witness: Reflections on Power, Evangelism and Race (2008), and The Heart of Racial Justice: How Soul Change Leads to Social Change (2005), coauthored with Rick Richardson. Her newest book Becoming Brave: Finding the Courage to Pursue Racial Justice Now is available August 2020.

Lift Every Voice Legacy (LEVL) engages, educates and empowers communities with artistic programs of cultural diversity, inclusion and equity. LEVL is inspired by the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We follow his example of the “beloved community.”

About Communities of Color Coalition

We envision an inclusive community free of racism and intolerance. The Communities of Color Coalition (C3) mission is educating and advocating for social justice and human rights, especially for people of color and other under-represented groups that have been systemically oppressed. We do this through a transformational process that centers and supports those who are closest to the problem in developing and implementing the solutions necessary for systemic change.

C3 is currently active in many areas of service and community building including: Multiple COVID-19 relief efforts, development of both an adult and youth Leadership Academy, engaging BIPOC youth and artists in programming, developing a preliminary plan for prevention of youth homelessness, and more.
