Event description
An immersive event to authentically build DEI into the workplace – hear from employers, workers, and workforce funders.

About this Event

Turning Basin Labs is a cooperative staffing agency committed to building business value by placing workers at employers that are committed to building sustainable and inclusive workplaces.

Turning Basin Labs, Workologie and Checkr welcome you to this event that brings together employers, funders, and workers to explore what it means to be an ally for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. Employers and workers will engage in an innovative three-part event that (1)identifies best practices to support allyship and DEI in the workplace, (2)engages attendees and the public in a reflective panel discussion on DEI at work, and (3) connect employers to local candidates through a reverse job fair – all surrounded and supported by good food, music, and fun. An overview of the day is below and a detailed agenda can be found here.

Our panel speakers and contributors on the day will include:

Rehana Lerandeau - Checkr - Speaking from the perspective of an employer and what Checkr is doing in this space to drive "fair chance" hiring.

Cherlyn Medina - Senior Independent Contractor - Speaking from the perspective of a worker currently in the system, and thriving as a contractor.

Sabrina Mutukisna - Workologie - Speaking from the perspective of developing materials, tools, and techniques to support organising in the workplace.

Rob Hope - San Francisco Foundation - Speaking about the role of funders and the workforce system in pushing an inclusive agenda through philanthropy.

John Austin - Autodesk - Speaking about what Autodesk is pursuing to diversify the talent and education systems that use its software.

Stephen Bediako - Turning Basin Labs - Speaking about the role that offering benefits and cooperative ownership can make to better DEI in the workplace.

With up to 15 employers in the room alongside workers and other partners and local stakeholders, this will be a practical and outcome focused event.
