If you’re ready to get started as a professional interpreter in Georgia, our second webinar will walk you through the three-part process and everything you need to know.

Picking up where our first webinar left off, we will review the Committee for Court Interpreter’s (CCI) requirements licensure and introduce you to the many important topics covered in the CCI’s 16-hour mandatory orientation. This is the initial step towards preparing to jump your first hurdle – the written exam. We will discuss the skills needed to pass this exam and how to prepare to improve your odds.

The oral evaluation will be your second hurdle. Depending on your language pair you will be required to take, either a certification exam or an oral proficiency interview. We will outline what happens in each of these tracks and how to prepare.

The final step for licensure requires complying with a background check and a number of other administrative matters. You will learn about reciprocity, a process which gives you the opportunity to work in other states with your Georgia license and walk away with ample practice resources and a sample study plan and checklist to guide you along your journey.

Maria Ceballos-Wallis is a FL/GA Certified Spanish

English Court and CHI Medical interpreter and a registered bilingual mediator (GA Office of Dispute Resolution). She has been a staff interpreter with DeKalb County State Court, in Decatur, GA since 2011. As co-founder of InterpretADR with Barrie J. Roberts, JD, Maria is the co-author of the forthcoming ADR REFERENCE GUIDE FOR INTERPRETERS. In 2020, Maria and Barrie, together with Marjory Bancroft (Cross-Cultural Communications), developed "Foundations in Conflict Resolution and ADR for Interpreters," the first online training of its kind. A strong advocate for continuing education and the interpreting profession, Maria has been a trainer with De La Mora Institute of Interpretation since 2014, an instructor for the GA Commission on Interpreters(GCOI) Orientation Program since 2019, and has played key roles in AAIT, the GCOI Board and the GA Judicial Covid-19 Council. Maria also hosts the podcast, “Subject to Interpretation.”
