RE: Spectrum Queer Media Community Partnerships + Pledge Supporters

Spectrum Queer Media (SQM) welcomes your Community Partnership in support of the Oakland Queer + Trans Open Mic - the sibling counterpart to the SF Queer Open Mic. Based in Oakland, California and entering its 4th year, the weekly event offers LGBTQIA and Ally community members a necessary space to recalibrate, reconnect and rejoice together.

The Oakland Queer Open Mic is unique in that it allows us to release the protective masks that many of us use to survive/avoid discrimination upon us as LGBTQIA and Ally community members.  In this singular way, particular to the founders' mission, The Oakland Queer Open Mic community shares are not encouraged to be performative -  they are heralded for being transformative.

Guest hosted by our LGBTQIA Spectrum Signature Artivists (artist + activist), The Oakland Queer + Trans Open Mic serves as a vital link to unfettered forms of creative expression and authentic exploration are honored: film, dance, spoken word, photography, storytelling, comedy, theater, music, song, and more.

We accept donations and never turn anyone away for lack of funds.  We use the contributions to support space rental cost and production fees (including sound system, mics/stand, screen), we offer ad space (online and real-time) to community partners. We warmly invite you to make a donation (of any size) and become an Oakland Queer + Trans Open Mic Community Pledge Supporter!

SPECTRUM QUEER MEDIA: MISSION FOCUSED

• Founded in 2009 by Monica Anderson (also known and embraced as “Kin Folkz”), SPECTRUM Queer Media’s mission as a community engagement and media advocacy group is to empower LGBTQIA communities by: acknowledging and celebrating authentic LGBTQIA visions, voices and viewpoints AND by creating inclusive and collaborative projects that support sustainable LGBTQIA community stakeholding.

SPECTRUM Queer Media’s projects include curated community building conversations, interactive community gatherings, exhibits and workshops that respect diversity, build interdependence and promote human rights.

SPECTRUM Queer Media is community based, community driven and community volunteer supported.  SPECTRUM Queer Media - led by a group of community shareholders - believes that a community imbued with gratitude and accountability practice is central to the promotion of wellness, evolved thoughts and healthy actions.

SPECTRUM Queer Media collaborates with local, national and international organizations, media makers, artists and individuals that advocate for and support a shared mission of LGBTQIA uplift through empowerment. SPECTRUM Queer Media believes that
"the context that restores community is one of possibility, generosity, and gifts, rather than one of problem solving, fear, and retribution." (Peter Block, Community: The Structure of Belonging)
