Did you know Parkinson's disease is the most common degenerative, neurological disease after Alzheimer's?

If you work to provide support and care for someone with Parkinson's, please join us for this day of training to increase your awareness and skill in managing the unique care needs of people living with Parkinson's. Designed to provide professional caregivers (staff in assisted living, nursing, rehab, adult foster care, and home health) with crucial knowledge that is specifically designed to be easily understood and applied in everyday situations.


The following Five Modules will be covered for 5.0 CE's

Learning Objectives Include:

Overview of Parkinson’s Disease

- Understand the physiological causes and symptoms of PD

- Identify common anti-Parkinson medication and side effects

Medication Management

- Understand side effects of common PD medications

- Recognize when a person with PD is “on” or “off”

Enhancing Communication & Swallowing

- Learn techniques to assist in speech and swallowing

- Explore ways to help a person with PD maintain communication

Personal Care & Daily Living

- Identify risk factors and techniques to help prevent falls

- Learn how to respond to freezing

Neuropsychiatric issues in Parkinson’s disease

- Learn how PD might impact depression, anxiety, psychosis, cognitive impairment and dementia

- Understand the causes of challenging behaviors and learn how to best respond

Workbooks & handouts are included


Full-day participation required for certificate of attendance. 5.0 CE's for Adult Foster Care Home Providers and Administrators in Long Term Care (nursing homes, residential care and assisted living).
