About this Event

Beating the Odds, Building Opportunities for Students in Poverty: Sharing Success Stories for Today and Tomorrow.

Please join us March 4 at 10am for the Cornell Connection Webinar where Dr. Manya Bouteneff will share the findings of her multi-year research project looking at high-performing schools across New York State where more than 40% of students qualify for Free or Reduce Price Lunch, and where these students are thriving academically. What can we learn from these schools? When we break out the data for rural schools, how does it compare?

Following the presentation, there will be time for discussion where you will have a chance to explore and share how to apply these findings in hybrid and remote environments.

Bio

Manya C. Bouteneff, researcher and professor at Monroe College’s King Graduate School in the Bronx, earned her doctorate from Columbia University’s Teachers College in the area of education leadership and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Vermont. Manya has held principal, district, and regional leadership positions at the elementary, middle, and high-school levels for 21 years, turning around 2 schools that remain highly effective. She taught language for 14 years in grades 3-12 and for 3 years in Djibouti, on the Horn of Africa.

Her greatest passion is in beating the odds – creating high-performing environments so that students in traditionally low-performing demographic groups succeed.

Her research focuses on high-poverty schools where students in poverty do well, learning what the principals of these schools perceive as the reasons for their success.

Webinars take place via Zoom.
